Jason E. Maddux

Jason E. Maddux joined Garofalo Goerlich Hainbach PC (GGH) in 2005 and became a shareholder in 2015.  His practice encompasses a broad range of regulatory issues affecting domestic and foreign aviation operators.  Jason’s focus areas include scheduled and charter air operations, international aviation, enforcement proceedings, and transactional matters – including whole and fractional aircraft transactions and performing due diligence for aerospace asset purchases.  Recently, he has assisted clients on compliance with DOT’s new passenger refund rules and FAA issues involved with the purchase of Part 135 and Part 145 certificate holders.

Jason counsels small and large airlines (Part 121 and 135 direct air carriers), Part 125 operators, public charter operators (indirect air carriers), and air charter brokers on compliance with DOT charter transportation rules, including Parts 212 and 380 of DOT’s regulations. Jason assists with the creation and filing of public charter prospectuses and provides guidance on bond/escrow security requirements.  He also conducts seminars addressing the DOT rules and policies applicable to direct and indirect air charter operations.

Additionally, Jason works on behalf of U.S. and foreign operators to obtain the required aviation licenses to conduct business in the United States, including DOT certificates of public convenience and necessity and commuter air carrier authorizations, as well as foreign air carrier permits and exemptions and FAA Part 129 operations specifications.  He also has represented U.S. and foreign carriers in enforcement proceedings before DOT, FAA, CBP, APHIS, and TSA and assisted clients on compliance with FAA’s rules governing small Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS or drone) commercial operations.

Jason earned a B.A. in International Studies with a minor in German, magna cum laude, from American University in 2001.  He received his J.D., cum laude, from the American University Washington College of Law in 2004.  Jason is admitted to the Bars of the District of Columbia and the State of New York.  He is a member of the ABA’s Forum on Air & Space Law, as well as NBAA where he currently serves as Chair of the Regulatory Issues Advisory Group.  He also holds a private pilot certificate.
